miraDry® Treatment

Clinical Results

BRIEF SUMMARY

“Primary hyperhidrosis is a pathological condition characterized by the idiopathic and excessive secretion of sweat beyond normal physiological demand and is localized at particular foci such as the face, axilla, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet. Patients seeking medical attention for hyperhidrosis often report disruptions to their professional and/or social lives due to sweating and subsequently experience many psychosocial difficulties, such as anxiety, social phobia, and depression. Therefore, a psychiatric explanation of causality is frequently offered for these patients during diagnosis. Excessive sweating is often mistakenly interpreted as a symptom of an anxiety disorder and can be cause for social embarrassment, exacerbating emotional stress and social avoidance. As currently constituted, the treatment of secondary psychosocial symptoms in primary hyperhidrosis is poorly understood and requires further investigation…” SOURCE: ClinicalTrials.gov

Summary: Clinical studies demonstrate permanent destruction and elimination of sweat and odor glands in the axilla, resulting in permanent and significant reduction of sweat and odor. The miraDry Treatment has been proven, in multiple controlled research studies and in over 150,000 treatments, to deliver excellent results, extremely high patient satisfaction and a strong safety profile.

Sweat Gland Destruction

The illustrations below demonstrate human sweat gland destruction.

The growth and development of sweat glands in humans occurs during the the embryonic period of fetal development. There are no new sweat glands that develop after birth. Any destruction and/or elimination of sweat glands, is permanent. Therefore, results are permanent. (Li H-H, Zhou G, Fu X-B, Zhang Lei. Antigen expression of human sweat glands. The miraDry® System specially targets sweat glands in the axilla (underarm/armpit) by delivering energy to dermal-fat layer.

Effect on Axillary Hair

Long-term follow-up research indicates approximately 70% reduction in underarm hair in patients in both light and dark axillary hair. These results remained consistent through 12 months of follow-up.
